This moss is commonly found on dry walls, etc. These were on the top of the brick wall of my garage (a ladder job). The long, white filaments extending from the tips of the leaves give the colonies, which form little, rounded mounds, a greyish appearance.

The spore capsules open up to allow the star-like peristome to emerge.

I shot these with my Schneider HM 40mm reversed, at f11, on an extension which included a Kiron x1.5 TC to eliminate internal reflections, FOV ca 10mm, twin TTL RC diffused flash, hand-held, with support from the substrate.

The colony was shot with the Kiron 105mm (no TC) at f16, twin flash.

Images have been cropped for composition.
